How is a study done in NIOS?

Flexible Course:
NIOS offers 10th (secondary) and 12th (senior secondary) as well as D.El.Ed, professional courses, and other certificate courses.

The syllabus is similar to CBSE, but the exam is easier than that.

Students can choose subjects according to their interest (minimum 5, maximum 7).

Self Study Material:
NIOS provides free study material (PDF, audio, video) on its website nios.ac.in.

Online content is available on the Swayam platform and NIOS app.

Guide books and previous years' question papers are also available in the market.

Personal Contact Program (PCP):
NIOS organizes optional classes at study centers. Here experienced teachers give guidance. These classes are not mandatory like regular school, but help can be taken from them.

Assignment (TMA):
It is mandatory to submit Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) for each subject.
TMA adds 20% marks to the final result and helps in exam preparation.
NIOS Exam Process:
Exams are conducted twice a year (April-May and October-November).
On-Demand Exam (ODE) option is also available, allowing students to take the exam at their convenience.

What is TOC:

Under TOC, students can transfer the marks of two subjects (10th or 12th) passed in CBSE, ICSE or other recognized boards to NIOS. This allows the student to appear for the examination of only the remaining subjects.

Eligibility:

Passing at least one or two subjects in 10th/12th from CBSE, ICSE or State Board.

Students who have completely failed cannot avail TOC.

The transfer is valid for results obtained within the last five years.

Procedure:

Application: Apply online on the official website of NIOS https://www.nios.ac.in/ and demand for TOC.

Documents: Submit the original board mark sheet, migration certificate and other required documents.

Fees: There may be an additional fee for TOC (around Rs 150 per subject).
Approval: Credits are transferred after verification by NIOS.
