Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], September 3 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday released the 16th edition of the distinguished literary work "Hindi Ka Gadya Sahitya" at Raj Bhavan, Shimla, a release said.
The book was authored by eminent scholar, critic, and former Head of the Hindi Department at Gorakhpur University, late Acharya Ramchandra Tiwari, recipient of the Hindi Gaurav Samman (2006) from Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan, Lucknow. The revised and expanded edition has been compiled by his son, Dr Premvrat Tiwari.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the book is regarded as an authentic and authoritative reference on the history of Hindi prose literature, known for its depth of research and critical perspective. He noted that the first edition was published in 1955, and with the release of this 16th edition, the work continues to remain a guiding light for the literary world. He added that Prof. Tiwari's writings have served as an inspiration and direction for generations of Hindi scholars.
The Governor further stated that this monumental work would be of immense value to students, researchers, teachers, and literary enthusiasts. It provides a critical evaluation of eminent Hindi prose writers from Bharatendu Harishchandra to Phanishwar Nath Renu. He described Acharya Tiwari and his book as inseparable, stating that the work is truly a "treasury of Hindi prose."
Special Guest Prof. Chittaranjan Mishra, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha, and former Head of Hindi Department, Gorakhpur University, lauded the book as a great repository of Hindi prose. He observed that Acharya Tiwari's critical insights were shaped not by external influence but by deep personal reflection and lifelong dedication to the pursuit of literary truth.
Prof. Himanshu Chaturvedi, Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, also graced the occasion as Special Guest. In his address, he said that Acharya Tiwari occupies an eminent place in the field of Hindi literature, and this book stands as an invaluable resource for both researchers and literary connoisseurs.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Dharmvrat Tiwari, who delivered the vote of thanks.
C P Verma, Secretary to the Governor, eminent litterateurs, and fellows of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study were also present on the occasion. (ANI)
