In a dramatic escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, explosions were reported near Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, Pokhran, and Phalodi regions on Saturday afternoon. The explosions are suspected to be linked to drone activity in the area, leading authorities to confirm the presence of unusual movements near the border. The blasts, though intermittent, have raised alarm among local residents and security forces, who are on high alert in the region.
Suspicious Drone Activity and Explosions
Local authorities confirmed the explosions, and there have been reports of continuous blasts occurring in the distance, especially around the Pokhran area. Authorities are investigating whether these are linked to drone activity, which has been observed in the region, raising concerns about potential cross-border attacks. The explosions, though not yet fully explained, have prompted officials to take quick action. Security forces have been stationed across the region, urging the public to remain indoors as a precautionary measure. This has added to the already heightened security alert in Rajasthan’s border areas, especially after similar drone activity was reported on the previous night.
Government Issues Red Alert and Closes Markets
In response to the escalating situation, local administrations have taken drastic measures to ensure public safety. In Barmer, district authorities issued an emergency order to close all markets and halt public movement. Residents were ordered to return to their homes, with authorities ensuring strict enforcement of these measures. The district collector, Tina Dabi, emphasized the urgency of the situation and instructed all public places to cease operation immediately.
Meanwhile, Jaisalmer also followed suit by closing markets and urging the public not to gather in large numbers. Police officials have been tirelessly urging residents to avoid public spaces, citing safety concerns due to the ongoing threat. These precautionary steps aim to reduce the risk of civilian casualties in case of further escalation.
Earlier drone attacks on Friday night had targeted the Barmer region, with numerous drones attempting to breach Indian airspace from 9 p.m. to 5:15 a.m. India’s air defense system successfully intercepted and destroyed every drone in mid-air. The attacks were contained within a 7-8 km radius of Barmer city, with the last one neutralized in the early hours of Saturday morning. This incident has further raised concerns over the security situation in the region.
Airports on High Alert and Security Measures
In response to the rising tensions, over 30 airports in vulnerable regions have been shut down to ensure safety. The affected airports include Amritsar, Pathankot, Srinagar, Jammu, Chandigarh, Leh, Shimla, Kangra, Bhuntar, Gaggal, Bathinda, Halwara, Udhampur, Awantipora, Adampur, Ambala, Sirsa, Suratgarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Phalodi, Nal, Jaipur, Hindon, Agra, Gwalior, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Banaras, and more. The closure of these airports highlights the severity of the situation and the government’s preparedness for any further threats.
