Pakistan on Monday lodged protest with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) against Indian players for not shaking hands at end of their Asia Cup match.
The players from the two sides skipped the customary post-match handshake, leaving fans shocked and Pakistan’s head coach visibly upset.
“We were ready to shake hands but felt let down when the opposition didn’t respond. On top of that, our performance itself was disappointing,” said Pakistan’s coach Mike Hesson.
India comfortably chased down Pakistan’s modest target of 128, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 47 off 37 balls. Shivam Dube provided steady support as India crossed the line with 25 deliveries left.
However, instead of walking over for the customary greeting, the Indian team made its way straight to the dressing room.
Pakistan’s players, led by captain Salman Ali Agha, lingered outside expecting the ritual, but the moment never came. An agitated Hesson was even seen moving toward the Indian camp, unable to hide his frustration at the snub.
The tension was brewing ever since the toss. The captains declined to shkaehands after the toss.Salman Ali Agha chose to bat first on a dry Dubai surface, but the decision backfired as Pakistan could only post 127/9.
