Sridevi fell in love with Boney Kapoor while staying in his home, claims writer: 'His first wife Mona took great care of her'

Sridevi’s wedding to veteran producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 created quite a scandal as Boney was married to producer Mona Shourie before and was the father of two kids. As per reports, their relationship blossomed when he was still married to her.

In an appearance on the podcast Meri Saheli, writer Hanif Zaveri threw light on their romane.

Zaveri revealed that Boney Kapoor and Sridevi didn’t come close during making of the blockbuster Mr India. He then explained that as she came from Chennai, she didn’t have any place to stay and her mother was having an operation in USA. Boney Kapoor proved to be a friend and offered her to stay in his home. Sridevi soon shifted to the home of the Kapoor clan and was given a home.

Mona Shourie took great care of Sridevi as she was a guest. Yet love blossomed between Boney and Sridevi and they tied the knot in secret. However Mona’s mother Sattee Shourie later had a public showdown with a heavily pregnant Sridevi at an event and tried to hit her.

Zaveri acknowledged that the marriage caused tension within the Kapoor family and deeply affected Mona Shourie, leading her into a period of depression. Boney Kapoor later confirmed this part of his relationship with Sridevi, explaining that he invited Sridevi to stay with him and his family following the Mumbai bombings, which had created a sense of urgency and concern.

During this time, Sridevi developed a strong bond with Arjun Kapoor, fitting into the household despite the challenging circumstances. Boney Kapoor also revealed that he eventually shared his feelings for Sridevi with his first wife, who responded with understanding and even helped purchase wedding rings. This open communication allowed Mona to raise their children, Arjun and Anshula, without fostering any resentment toward him or the blended family.

Mona Shourie Kapoor passed away in 2012 after a prolonged battle with cancer, surrounded by her children. Six years later, in 2018, Sridevi tragically died due to accidental drowning during a trip to Dubai. In the years following these losses, the Kapoor children—Arjun, Anshula, Janhvi, and Khushi—have grown closer, forging stronger familial bonds despite the earlier challenges.
