Several villages in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are facing acute water scarcity and are provided water through tankers now. Amid this situation, the district administration, through the Jal Samruddha Gaon Abhiyan, has resolved to make 968 villages and 12 wadis tanker-free. Presently, water is provided through 263 tankers in the district.
The water problems are faced in the district due to inadequate rainfall during the last monsoon and the decrease in the groundwater level. The state government will implement the Jal Samruddha Gaon Abhiyan to find a permanent solution to the water crisis.
Under the first phase of the campaign, the survey of the villages, where water is supplied through tankers, and more than 191 wells will be conducted. After the survey, it will be reviewed how many wells and borewells in these villages can be refilled with water. Impetus will be paid for roofwater harvesting in the government, semi-government and private buildings in the villages, which will help to percolate the rain water, and the ground water level will increase, the administrative sources said.
The technical employees working in the campaign will be provided with proper training for the effective implementation of the campaign. They will be trained on the refilling of wells and borewells, and rainwater harvesting. A committee will be established under the block development officer at the taluka level, and the water conservation works will be implemented effectively through this committee. The training of the employees will be held in stages between May 19 and June 24.
Tehsildar, block development officers, agriculture officer, deputy engineer, water supply, junior engineer and other employees will be included in the campaign. The district administration has resolved to make ‘Jalsamruddha Gav Abhiyan’ successful in the district and make it tanker-free.
