Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): A woman from Biharipura, Azadrani Chadhar, died following a uterus surgery at Meera Hospital in Sagar. Her family has filed a complaint against Dr Monika Jain, the hospital’s gynaecologist, at Moti Nagar police station.
Azadrani was admitted on May 6 and underwent surgery without the family's consent, they alleged. Post-surgery, her condition deteriorated, and she was shifted to Shrilakshmi Hospital in Bhopal on May 13. Doctors there reportedly found severe abdominal infection and internal damage, including a cut intestine, leading to septic complications. She later died.
Dr. Jain claimed the patient had a critical infection and low platelet count and was discharged at the family’s request. Meanwhile, Meera Hospital remained shut from May 22–31, citing the doctor’s travel abroad.
Police have begun an investigation. The case has triggered political outrage with Bhim Army demanding action and Congress leaders, including District President Rajkumar Pachauri, visiting the grieving family.
Pachauri accused the administration of negligence in allowing illegal hospitals to operate and warned of protests if justice is delayed. The case has intensified calls for a crackdown on unauthorised private clinics in the region.
