Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Despite repeated calls, around 800 selected candidates from the 2023 police constable recruitment have not joined training. Police Headquarters (PHQ) is now preparing to open the waiting list to fill these vacant posts, said officials.
The final results were declared in March and training call letters were issued soon after. However, many selected candidates failed to report even after being given three opportunities. PHQ sources said a final call has been made, and those who still don’t turn up will be replaced with candidates from waiting list.
This development comes amid a recruitment controversy in which candidates reportedly used proxy solvers to crack the exam. So far, 40 FIRs have been filed and over 60 people have been arrested across the state.
Officials believe this may be one of the reasons why many candidates chose not to join. Despite multiple reminders, they have remained unresponsive. Currently, only around 80% of the selected candidates have reached their designated Police Training Centres (PTCs).

Out of 6,200 selected constables, appointment letters were issued to 4,274 candidates. But till Monday evening, only 3,461 had reported for training. This leaves over 800 posts unfilled. PHQ says these vacancies will now be offered to candidates on the waiting list, as many selected applicants have shown no interest despite being given three chances.
No response despite reminders: DIG
According to DIG (Selection and Recruitment) Virendra Singh, many selected applicants neither reported to training nor responded to the reminders issued by police. As a result, PHQ has decided to move ahead and start appointing candidates from the waiting list to ensure training batches aren’t left incomplete.
Women’s training in Indore, Bhauri only
Selected constables undergo 9 months of training that includes physical drills, legal education, communication skills and orientation on new criminal laws. Training is currently underway at 8 PTCs across Madhya Pradesh. Of the women recruits, 798 have joined training at PTC Indore and 314 at PTS Bhauri. Meanwhile, 2,349 male recruits are undergoing training at centres in Indore, Bhauri, Pachmarhi, Rewa, Tigra, Sagar, Umaria and Ujjain.
