Mumbai: With the Mumbai Coastal Road (South) now open round the clock starting Friday, the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged motorists especially the youth to strictly follow speed limits.
Strict Surveillance and Enforcement
Equipped with advanced CCTV surveillance, the stretch will be closely monitored, and violators will receive official notices. Serious offenses may trigger police action at the violator's doorstep. The announcement came during Thursday’s virtual inauguration of the road’s promenade, cycle track, and four pedestrian subways. (PuP)

Inauguration of New Facilities
The inauguration was live-streamed from the newly established MMRDA headquarters in Bandra (East), and was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar, Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, and other senior officials. During the event, Fadnavis cautioned motorists particularly the youth against performing stunts and speeding.
CM’s Safety Appeal to Youth
“Reckless driving endangers not only your life but others’ too,” he said. With the entire stretch under advanced CCTV surveillance, offenders will receive official notices, and in serious cases, police will take action at their residence. “We don’t want this,” Fadnavis added, urging citizens to follow traffic rules and enjoy a safe ride on the coastal road.
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused to walkers on Marine Drive and Worli during the construction phase, Fadnavis assured that the completed project would more than compensate.
Promenade and Accessibility Features
“The 5.25-km promenade, which will eventually extend to 7.5 km, includes a dedicated cycle track and pedestrian-friendly facilities. Special care has been taken to ensure full accessibility for persons with disabilities,” Fadnavis added.
Leaders Highlight Mumbai’s Transformation
Shinde said "Mumbai is transforming with expanded roads, pothole-free cement concrete streets, ongoing beautification, new sewage treatment plants, and a 70-hectare park along the coastal road. The BMC aims to give Mumbai an international standard."
Pawar stated that the city’s infrastructure is rapidly transforming its landscape, with road development progressing swiftly under BMC’s focus on growth-oriented projects. He emphasised the need for strict oversight to ensure high-quality execution. To mark the inauguration, the BMC allowed a select group of cyclists to use the new cycling track on Thursday.
Partial Public Access
Of the 7.5 km promenade, only 5.25 km from Priyadarshini Park to Haji Ali and Baroda Palace to Worli will open to the public from Friday 4:30 pm. Work on the remaining 2.5 km is expected to finish within 18 months. Out of 19 PuP, only four will be opened from Friday, the rest will open once the remaining promenade section is completed.
