Thane: The Thane Crime Branch has arrested a man for allegedly possessing over 3 kilograms of charas, valued at more than ₹30 lakh. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Aftab Alam (34), a resident of Bihar.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Alam had arrived at Thane railway station intending to sell the contraband to someone. The police seized 3.096 kilograms of charas during the operation.
Salil Bhosale, senior police inspector from Crime Branch Unit 5, received a tip-off from a local informer on June 30. Acting on the information, a team of officers laid a trap at Kopari East in Thane, where Alam was expected to arrive to sell the drugs. The police intercepted him and, upon checking, recovered the charas. He was then taken to the police station.
An FIR has been registered against Alam under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
