Young minds, big dreams and a kids' market

Send Push

This will be a pop-up market with a difference. On Saturday, May 31, kids of various age groups will run a one-of-its-kind, pop-up market in South Goa. Yes, you read it right, only kids will be selling their wares at the Mini Makers Market Collective at Phoenix Lane in Fatorda, Margao.

Inspired by a desire to provide a platform for children to showcase their creativity, entrepreneurship and confidence, two parents—Veena Da Costa and Ragini Dhingra—have curated this unique event that will feature 25 tables set up by young minds with big dreams.

“We believe that kids these days need to acquire skills that go beyond academic performance and knowledge. They also need to learn skills like confidence, creativity and the freedom to their own ideas,” says Ragini.

Veena adds, “We wanted to create this experience so children understand what it is like to set up their own stall, interact with customers and proudly display and sell something they have made with their own hands.”

The young talents, possibly entrepreneurs or CEOs in the making, will offer a variety of and services, ranging from handmade crafts and artworks to baked goods and innovative solutions. Each stall will be unique, reflecting the creativity and passion of the young owners.

Veena and Ragini have been working closely on the idea of this unique pop-up market for a while now. However, the idea came to life when their friends (Renata and Raul) invited them to visit their new space—Phoenix Lane in Fatorda.

“One conversation led to another and here we are now with the Mini Makers Collective Idea,” says Veena, hoping this will become an annual event for children.

Apart from gaining confidence and self-, kids will also gain hands-on experience to work with numbers.

Ragini Dhingra The experience will introduce children to the process of setting up their own stalls, designing signages, managing products and handling transactions

“The experience will introduce children to the process of setting up their own stalls, designing signages, managing products and handling transactions. Most importantly, we hope they have fun and develop a love for creativity, entrepreneurship and learning,” says Ragini.

She believes the interaction with customers will help kids develop problem-solving skills and think outside the box.

“We believe the future is entrepreneurial and that will only change when children are given a change to explore, express and feel empowered. This event is entirely non-profit and we want families and the to come together and cheer the kids,” says Veena.
