Abi Webster began an affair with Carl on Coronation Street during Monday night's episode.
The mechanic, played by Sally Carman, is married to Weatherfield legend Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) on ITV's flagship soap but things have been heating up with her and Kevin's brother Carl (Jonathan Howard) for weeks now. To make matters worse, Kevin was diagnosed with testicular cancer some moths ago, but, despite being given the all-clear, he opted to let his wife think that he was still suffering as he suspected something was up.
But things came to a head in the latest instalment when Tyrone Dobbs ( Alan Halsall ), who rumbled Kevin's deception weeks ago, could not hold it in any longer and blurted out to Abi that there was no cancer as she continued to worry that his treatment was not working. Furious, Abi stormed home to number 13 where she could barely hold in her tears as she demanded answers. Kevin tried to tell Abi that he was 'so, so sorry' for what he had done but had tried to justify it by his insecurities within his relationship.

Abi screamed that there was 'nothing going on' between her and Carl, who was introduced as Kevin's long-lost brother earlier this year. Before walking out, Abi told Kevin: "You've had cancer. And you know the agony it causes, the worry, the stress. And you chose to keep putting me through it", as she ignored his pleas to stay.
Kevin then decided to confront Carl, who found out about the lie towards the end of last week as his own dodgy deals within the garage came to light, but was shocked to find out it was Tyrone who had revealed all. He screamed to him that he 'had no right' to lie in the first place as he reminded him that his stepdaughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan) had cancer several years ago.
Things took an even more dramatic turn when Abi, completely frustrated by this point, went to see Carl to make her true feelings known. "You are all I think about," she told him, and the pair shared a passionate kiss in the garage. It was later revealed that things had taken a far more physical turn, and Abi was seen getting dressed after the action had taken place.

Carl declared that their whole encounter was 'worth the wait' and they kissed again. But later, in the Rovers, Carl did not seem so keen on the idea of Abi calling off her entire marriage as she weighed up what they had begun. "Don't I deserve to be happy?" she asked him and he told her to go home to be with Kevin.
But later on, Kevin's son Jack (Kyran Bowes) caught Abi packing her bags and she told him she was just 'going on a little break', and he tried to plead with her to stay. She shared a hug with him and promised him she would be 'staying put' for the foreseeable. When Kevin asked what had made her change her mind, she snapped at him that she was staying for the children and he promised her he would do 'anything' to make it up to her, completely unaware of her own infidelity.
In the days before Kevin's brother arrived on the cobbles, the mechanic was famously married to Sally Metcalfe ( Sally Dynevor ) and they had daughters Rosie ( Helen Flanagan ) and Sophie ( Brooke Vincent ) together. They initially split up when Kevin had an an affair with Natalie Barnes ( Denise Welch ) but they remarried in 2002. Their marriage survived numerous infidelities on both sides, but ultimately crumbled when Kevin fathered Jack with Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) before she died in the 2010 tram crash as part of the programme's 50th anniversary.
Carl is the son of Kevin's dad Bill Webster (Peter Armitage) and his second wife Elaine (Judy Gridley) and spent most of his life in Germany with his parents until he arrived on the Manchester backstreet earlier this year. In real life, Jonathan spent 10 years in LA and working alongside big-name stars including Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins, but the 38-year-old actor ranks landing a part in Corrie among his greatest achievements.
He told The Mirror : "Being in Coronation Street is just as big a thrill as being in a Hollywood film or an American TV series. It’s all the same, everyone’s telling stories, whether it’s a big $200m movie or a soap like Corrie. As a Lancashire lad born and raised, the dream was to be in Coronation Street – that was the ceiling, so it feels wonderfully surreal to now be acting with people like Kevin Webster that I watched religiously as a kid.
"My friends ask me, ‘what you have been up to today?’ and I reply ‘I took Tracy Barlow for a drink in the Rovers Return!’ It’s just incredible to say these things."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , and Threads.
