Kelly Clarkson's co-star shares update after ex-husband's tragic death

Kelly Clarkson'sco-stars have been supporting the singer following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The talk show host and the talent manager, who died following a battle with cancer, were married from 2013 until 2022, with the couple sharing two kids.

A representative for the family told PEOPLE in a statement that he had been diagnosed with cancer over three years ago. They said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years.

"He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

In the wake of his death, Kelly's co-star on The Voice, Carson Daly, shared an update on the 'terrible situation'. "It's been tough," Carson told Us Weekly. "We all knew Brandon well, and we are a family."

The Breakaway singer skipped a taping of The Voice after his death and her spot was filled in by singer Jennifer Hudson. Brandon, a talent manager, was the former stepson of Reba McEntire, a judge on The Voice's 28th series.

Country singer Reba was married to Brandon's father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015, with the two sharing a son; Brandon's half-brother Shelby.

Carson added: "I was working with [Reba] last week, everything was fresh, so we've just been sending our prayers and support to them. It's a terrible situation.

"It's really no different than what you would do for your family members. You let them know you're there, you're praying for them [and] you're giving them space at the same time."

Before Brandon's death, Kelly postponed her Las Vegas residency as she announced that Brandon was ill. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas..

"While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding."

Brandon shared River Rose, 11, and Remington 'Remy' Alexander, nine, with Kelly and also had two children from a previous marriage. In 2022, he became a grandfather after his eldest daughter gave birth to a son.

Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon after six years of marriage in 2020, just weeks after they put their home on the market. She said in 2023 that the split "ripped her apart".
