Manchester United already have two Premier League transfer alternatives lined up to Carlos Baleba

Manchester United have reportedly identified two potential alternatives to Carlos Baleba, should they fail to strike a deal with Brighton.

The Red Devils initially expressed their interest in the midfielder during the summer transfer window, but were met with a firm response from the Seagulls.

Brighton had no intention of parting ways with the player, and would only entertain offers in the region of the £115 million they pocketed from the sale of Moises Caicedo to Chelsea back in 2023. This led United to abandon any potential deal.

United could, of course, rekindle their interest when the January transfer window swings open, hoping that Brighton might soften their stance. However, it appears that the club are already exploring potential alternative options.

As per the Telegraph, Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton are also on the radar as possible targets, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Both players have made their way into the England squad over the past year. Anderson started both of the Three Lions' matches during the recent international break, impressing with his performances in the number six role.

He has also turned heads since making the move to Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United last summer. His performances played a key role in helping his club secure European football this season.

Wharton has also been instrumental in his club's success, being a member of the Palace squad that hoisted the FA Cup last season.

United are not anticipated to be the sole club eyeing up the pair when the transfer window swings open in the new year, with Manchester City also reportedly showing interest in Wharton.

Forest and Palace are also predicted to put up a strong fight to retain their star players, particularly as both teams are participating in European football this season.
