A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was allegedly attacked by a BMW driver as she walked down the street.
On Tuesday, June 24 a woman, who has not been named, was reportedly attacked at around 5.30pm on Aylestone Road near to the traffic light junction with Welford Rd and the Voco hotel in Leicester. The alleged assault came after a BMW driver had just crashed a car and rolled it onto its roof.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, was seriously assaulted at the scene and was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with life threatening injuries - where she remains.

A statement on the Leicestershire Police website added further details about the incident, it read: "Detectives are continuing their investigation into a road traffic collision in Leicester which also lead to the serious assault of a woman
"Just after 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 24 June), the force received a call that a white BMW 1 series had overturned on Aylestone Road near to the traffic light junction with Welford Rd and the Voco hotel.
"Minutes later, the driver was seen to leave the vehicle before running down the middle of Aylestone Rd towards the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he then assaulted a female pedestrian in the street. The man was detained at the scene and subsequently arrested by officers.
"A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession with intent to supply class B drugs, assault of an emergency worker, dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs and failing to provide a specimen. He remains in police custody.
"The victim, a woman in her fifties, remains at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with life threatening injuries. Her family continues to be supported by specialist officers."
Detective Inspector Emma Matts said:“This woman was sadly subjected to a serious assault and remains in hospital in a critical condition. We have a dedicated team of detectives who are pursuing all lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances around what happened.
“We have spoken to a number of witnesses, but we know from CCTV that the area was extremely busy with many people passing through the city. If you saw anything connected to this incident or filmed any footage - whether that was of the vehicle being driven beforehand through the city centre, the collision itself or the assault – please get in touch with us.
“Also, if you were driving a vehicle which has a dash cam, please check your vehicle to see if it has captured anything of use to the investigation.”
