Due to heavy rains, a landslide occurred near Pali Gad on the Yamunotri Highway late at night, due to which the traffic came to a complete standstill. Due to this, vehicles of hundreds of devotees have been stranded on both sides of the highway since morning. The devotees who have set out on the Yamunotri Dham Yatra are facing trouble. Given the situation, machines of the National Highway Department (NH) have been sent to the spot and the work of removing the debris is going on.
The effect of heavy rains is also being seen in other parts of the state. The Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway has been closed near Sirohbagad, while the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund Highway is also blocked near Sonprayag. Apart from this, the road has been blocked due to debris in Bhanerpani near Pipalkoti on the Badrinath Highway. There are long queues of travel vehicles at all three places and the passengers are waiting for the weather to clear.
The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain in parts of Dehradun and Nainital districts. At the same time, an orange alert has been issued for Bageshwar district. There is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning in other districts as well. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of lightning and rain in the entire Uttarakhand till July 3. Due to this travelers and local administration need to be extra cautious.
