Cameras at Queen's spotted Emma Raducanu watching her US Open mixed doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz in action as he booked his spot in the final on Saturday. Alcaraz will meet Jack Draper's conqueror, Jiri Lehecka, in Sunday's showdown after beating Spanish compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-4 in London.
Earlier in the day, Lehecka dashed hopes of a dream clash between Draper and the reigning Wimbledon champion by beating the British No. 1 - who has struggled with tonsilitis this week - 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Alcaraz produced a routine performance to avoid back-to-back shocks, and Raducanu was enjoying herself in the crowd.
Raducanu looked glam as she swapped the court with the stands at Queen's, wearing yellow with sunglasses resting on her head.
The 22-year-old fell into awkward laughter with a friend when cameras focused on her as she appeared to be pouting while watching the big screen at the Andy Murray Arena.
She will switch from watching Alcaraz to playing alongside him at the US Open later this year following an eye-catching announcement earlier in the week.
The revamped mixed doubles, which will be a standalone event on August 19 and 20 before the Grand Slam begins on August 24, has caused controversy among traditional doubles players.
United States Tennis Association hoped it would attract more high-profile singles players, which it has in its maiden year.
A stellar 16-team lineup includes Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka, but the team of Alcaraz and Raducanu has stolen the headlines.
Alcaraz revealed he approached the British No. 1 through their agents, and the five-time major champion has expressed his excitement about the link-up.
"I'm super excited about it. I think it's going to be great," the Spaniard shared at Queen's.
"It was an amazing idea for the tournament. We will try to win. But obviously, it's going to be really, really fun."
After his victory against Bautista Agut on Saturday, Alcaraz also laid down his gratitude upon learning Raducanu was in attendance.
He said: "No [I didn't speak with her afterwards]. No, I couldn't. I saw on social media that she came up to watch my match.
"I'm just glad. I mean, I was focused on the match. I didn't see her. I'm just glad she came to support, to watch my match. Yeah, I think it was great having her in the stands."
Raducanu's focus will now switch towards Eastbourne, where she will face the USA's Ann Li in the opening round on Monday.
