Eggs are a fantastic ingredient; most will have stored in their fridge or on the counter as they are incredibly versatile. You can enjoy them scrambled, boiled, poached or turned into an omelette. While it's not the healthiest way to cook eggs, most enjoy theirs fried on a piece of toast, with avocado or alongside a full English breakfast.

However, there is a way to make fried eggs healthier and even taste better. Instead of grabbing a frying pan, Renne of Kudos Kitchen recommends putting your air fryer to use. She said: "Step away from the stovetop with this fast and cool cooking method."

Instead of using oil, Renee recommends opting for butter. Alternatively, you can use a cooking spray if you're looking to make this healthier.

Fans of the blog shared their thoughts on this way of making fried eggs. Shadi Hasanzadenemati said, "Love how simple and easy this recipe is! I'll be making it again!"

Callie wrote: "Omg this is one of the best ideas ever. Thank you. Too easy. They came out perfect."

Jenny Lavender commented: "Loved this recipe - will probably make my fried eggs this way from now on instead of using the pan."

Celia George said: "Oh, my gosh - thank you for this incredible method of frying eggs - yes, because each machine is different, you will have to get your exact doneness by trial and error - and by pausing your air fryer to check on the doneness. But this method works."

Ingredients
  • One large egg
  • One tablespoon of butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
Method

Start by adding a small aluminium pan to the basket of an air fryer. You can use a cake tin, just anything that fits in the basket.

Next, add the butter to the tin and heat at 180 degrees for around one minute for it to melt.

Then crack the egg into the heated tin. You can cook as many eggs at once, but they need to fit in the tin.

After, lower the air fryer temperature down to around 170 degrees to fry your egg.

For over-hard eggs, this takes approximately eight minutes, but each air fryer will vary. If you're after a runny yolk, it should only take around four to six minutes.
