A scary "masterpiece" that offers thrilling dramatics and great visuals has been hailed by fans as "remarkable". A psychological horror released two years ago, Knock at the Cabin, is a haunting exploration of sacrifice, belief and survival.
The intruders-Leonard, Redmond, Sabrina, and Adraine-insist they are acting on visions and a shared belief that their actions are necessary to save humanity. As the family struggles to understand the truth behind the strangers' motives, the film explores themes of faith, sacrifice and the emotional toll of impossible choices. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the movie is based on Paul G. Tremblay's novel The Cabin at the End of the World. It is now available on Amazon Prime.
An entertainment critic for The Daily Beast wrote: "The result is a remarkably taut thriller that's dripping in dread, refusing to waste a single second of its runtime for audience reprieve."
Knock at the Cabin tells the gripping story of Andrew and Eric, a couple who take their daughter Wen on a peaceful getaway to a remote cabin. Their trip takes a terrifying turn when four strangers break in and hold them hostage, claiming that one of the family members must be sacrificed to prevent a global apocalypse.
However, the movie has received mixed reviews on IMDb that has given a rating of 6 out of 10.
One of the users wrote: "Par for the course for an M Night Shyamalan movie. I actually really enjoyed this. Maybe I just really enjoy watching Dave Bautista. I was thankful that they didn't rely on gratuitous gore to get the point across, that's the main thing I was afraid of. This was tastefully done and very emotional.
"Also, I'd like to beg the question, why does a Shyamalan movie always have to have some 'twist' to it? Sure, I expect the movie to give me food for thought but is there some secret surprising 'twist' to the story? I didn't get that impression from the trailers and the movie didn't seem to be suggesting one and I just enjoyed each moment for what it was. In the end, I was satisfied with the way it went, regardless of whether or not I already knew the end or guessed the end or didn't guess it."
However, another one wrote: "I read the book this film is based on before watching it. The Cabin At the End of the World was a great book that really dives into the histories of the characters, the philosophy behind the choice, and it ended with an ambiguous ending, where you weren't sure who was right at the end."
