Manchester United pursuit of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo may have hit another snag. The Red Devils have earmarked the forward as a top transfer target to bolster their attack. Despite having two offers rejected for the Cameroonian star, with Brentford holding out for a £65million fee, United remain hopeful of securing his signature before their pre-season tour to the USA for the Premier League Summer Series.
However, new complications have arisen. Tottenham were previously linked with Mbeumo, but he favours a move to Old Trafford. Yet, other transfer activities could potentially hamper United's chances of landing Mbeumo in the coming weeks. Nottingham Forest are reportedly making a renewed bid for his team-mate Yoanne Wissa, after previous attempts fell through, according to The Athletic.
Forest see Wissa as a replacement for Anthony Elanga, who is tipped to join Newcastle soon for £55m. If Wissa does make the switch to the City Ground, Brentford may hike up their asking price for Mbeumo to avoid losing both key forwards at once.
This situation might force United to accelerate their negotiations to secure a deal before any price increase. However, Brentford's director of football, Phil Giles, recently denied that a deal was imminent.
He said: "There's significant interest in Bryan. I think it's been well publicised and spoken about, his preference. I think from what I understand he's also, if needs be, happy to stay at Brentford next year as well.
"Let's see on that. I think our position is that he had an unbelievable season last season, we expected interest in him. If that deal's right, there's a deal to do, if not then he stays."

"We've spoken to Bryan and his representatives. It's not a given that he's going to depart this summer. There is interest.
"He had a great season last season so it's inevitable there's going to be interest in him. If we get the right offer, there's potentially a deal to be done but there's only so much we can say on that."
Mbeumo, 25, dazzled for Brentford last season, netting 20 times across competitions. With just one year left on his contract, speculation is rife over his future in west London.
