The ATP Finals are officially underway, with home hero Jannik Sinner hoping to defend his title in Turin. Top seed Carlos Alcaraz starts his campaign against Alex de Minaur on Sunday - and Sinner and Alcaraz are locked in a battle for the year-end No. 1 ranking.
Seven-time former champion Novak Djokovic is not in Turin this week. The Serbian superstar decided to pull out of the ATP Finals after winning his 101st career title at the Hellenic Championship in Athens on Saturday, beating Lorenzo Musetti.
Musetti's defeat meant that he was unable to qualify for the ATP Finals - and Felix Auger-Aliassime got the final spot instead. But Djokovic's withdrawal allowed Musetti to make it into the season-ending championships instead. The ATP is now scrambling for a new alternate to fly to Italy.
Meanwhile, the WTA season concluded with the WTA Finals on Saturday. Elena Rybakina claimed the title, receiving £3.89m ($5.235m) in prize money - and then refused to pose alongside WTA CEO Portia Archer in a celebratory photo.
