Weymouth might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of a summer break by the sea - but it should be.
This pretty underated UK seaside town is tucked away on Dorset's southern coast, this no-fuss seaside town has managed to hang on to something other resorts lost years ago: proper British charm.
No Instagram gimmicks, no designer beach bars - just soft golden sand, calm clear water, and enough space to actually stretch out without being elbow-to-elbow with strangers.
The beach is the real winner here. It's huge, clean, and perfect for families - or anyone really who just wants a break that isn't a total circus.
It's even been named one of the best beaches in Europe, though you wouldn't guess that from how underrated it still is. On a sunny day, it's the kind of place that makes you feel like you are on holiday whilst already being on home soil.

It has real old charm here. Punch and Judy shows, donkey rides, deckchairs, kids running around with melting ice creams - it's the stuff of British holidays before everything got expensive and overcomplicated.
And the best bit is that It's all right there, just a short walk from the station.
The town itself isn't trying to be something its not, and that's exactly why it works. You've got fish and chips on the harbour, pubs that have kept the same decor for more than 20 years honouring its authenticity, and shops selling everything from rock to rubber rings. There's something refreshing about a place that isn't trying to impress you - and still does.
And it's not all stuck in time. There's paddleboarding in the bay, boat trips out to sea, and plenty of coastal walks if you're feeling active. The Isle of Portland is just over the causeway and feels a world away from the usual tourist trail.
You'll find hidden pebbled beaches and clifftop views.
It's easy to get to as well. Direct trains from London in under three hours, or a straightforward drive down from the Midlands or the South East. Accommodation ranges from traditional B&Bs to more modern guesthouses, though in summer it's worth booking ahead - especially if the weather looks good.
Weymouth may be underrated but its full of charm and history and thats what makes it a desirable destination to escape crowds and embrace the authenticity of a place that has been unspoilt by tourism.
