We're so lucky to have a number of stunning seaside towns across the UK. They make for perfect getaways throughout the summer months for those who would rather not travel abroad.
However, some seaside towns are more appealing than others. Consumer champions Which? have released a list of the best beach towns in the UK, based on factors including tourist attractions, shopping, and food and drink. Bamburgh, in Northumberland, was ranked at the top of the list, while a seaside town in North Wales came right at the bottom.
As reported by Time Out, Bangor scored just 42% in the overall ratings. The town received just one-star for food and drink, tourist attractions, and shopping.
It was described by the survey respondents as "drab" and "run down". The one positive about Bangor, according to the research, is that it's near the amazing and picturesque coastline of North Wales.
Bangor has a number of historical landmarks, including a 19th century university building, a sixth-century cathedral, and Penrhyn Castle. It also has a grand Victorian pier which spans 1,500ft, making it the second-longest pier in Wales and ninth-longest in Britain.
The iconic pier has a number of positive reviews on TripAdvisor. It has an overall rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 639 reviews.
Chud339 said: "It's just a really nice walk along the pier, with stunning views of the straits, Beaumaris, Llandudno and Snowdonia."
TheWelshDaisy added: "A beautiful experience - peace & quiet plus stunning views and delicious food."
However, twinkletoes3 wrote: "Very quiet along here. Lots of renovation s taking place. One coffee shop open. A good place for views and a gentle stroll."
Trinapalmer91 put: "Boring with nothing to do. It was freezing and no stalls were open apart from one machine.
Meanwhile, Mablethorpe, in Lincolnshire, was ranked as the second worst seaside town in the UK. As well as scoring one star for scenery, it got an overall score of 46%.
Towns such as Great Yarmouth, Skegness, Bognor Regis and Southend all rated among the worst seaside resorts. Blackpool and Clacton-on-Sea also did poorly.
