A hot weather essential sold by Amazon has been urgently recalled because the product presents a "high risk of electric shock". The A-Faction856 Ceiling Fan with lights has been flagged as unsafe by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), prompting an urgent warning to customers.
According to officials, the China-made ceiling fan has poor insulation and dangerous gaps between the insulation and internal wiring. This flaw means the protective barrier could degrade over time, leaving live wires exposed and potentially shocking users. The OPSS has now categorised the product as carrying a "high" safety risk and halted further imports at the UK border.
An OPPS statement on the Government's website said: "The product presents a high risk of electric shock as it has inadequate insulation and insufficient creepage and clearance distance between the mains potential input circuit and low voltage output circuits.
"Over time, the insulation can wear down and expose live wires which may result in the user receiving an electric shock."
Two product codes are associated with the recall: FBA15JYLVF9HU000040 and X0027BDFWD.
It remains unclear whether Amazon is proactively offering refunds for the faulty product.
Shoppers who bought the fan are being urged not to use it and to contact Amazon UK's customer service team immediately.
Customers can visit www.amazon.co.uk/hz/contact-us-foresight/hubgateway to get support.
As temperatures climb, the OPSS is warning consumers to double-check the safety of electrical cooling products before use.
