Unlike other Doom titles, Doom The Dark Ages is going to be a bit different this time. This game serves as the prequel of Doom Eternal (2020) and Doom reboot (2016) and set in a completely different world - Argent D’Nur - a dark noir cosmic medieval setting.
This franchise always boasts on bringing unique installments every time, but id Software never forgets to maintain the core aspects in all the titles in the series. However, it seems fans are missing one key franchise component from the game, that is Glory Kills . But don’t break a sweat, because this guide will help you in executing that.
Doom The Dark Ages: How to perform Glory Strikes and Glory Kills
Those who have been playing Doom since the beginning know how cool it was to finish off an enemy with a Glory Kill. These moves were triggered after dealing enough damage to an enemy when it is getting staggered and that is indicated by a blue highlight. A Glory Kill is a combo of some special melee action that instantly kills an enemy.
However, the Glory Kill mechanism is now changed a lot in Doom The Dark Ages. The latest installment is now mostly about Glory Strikes, a new mechanism. But that doesn’t mean Glory Kill is not a part of The Dark Ages anymore, it is in the game, but not as frequent as it was in previous Doom titles.
In Doom The Dark Ages, the Glory Strike is the primary final blow to your enemies. There is a difference between Glory Kills and Glory Strikes. Unlike Glory Kills, Glory Strikes don’t always kill the enemy. However, the process of triggering the Glory Strike is quite similar to Glory Kills.
All you have to do is to deal enough damage to your non-fodder enemy that it goes to the Dazed state, indicated by a purple highlight. Now, you already know what to do. Just press the melee button while your enemy is in the stunned or Dazed state and you will performa Glory Strike.
Now triggering a Glory Kill is a lot tougher in Doom The Dark Ages. Unlike Glory Strikes, Glory Kills are accessible to only certain enemies and bosses. Every Demonic Essence boss possesses specific Glory Kill animations which you can trigger by absorbing the essence to upgrade your gears.
It’s not that you can’t trigger Glory Kills to normal enemies at all, but in order to achieve that, you will need specific maneuver techniques to those enemies. For example: you can perform a Glory Kill with a Curb Stomp finisher if you jump above your Dazed enemy.
