NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday had a delightful video call with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla , India’s latest spacefarer, on Saturday. While their conversation revolved around space and India's growth, 'Gajar ka halwa' was also mentioned.
After congratulating Shukla for scripting history, PM Modi said with a smile, "You are in space, where there is no gravity, but every Indian is watching that you are down to earth."
"You've taken gajar ka halwa up there — have you shared it with your teammates?" PM Modi laughed while asking Shukla
"Yes," he said, chuckling. "I brought gajar ka halwa, moong dal ka halwa, and even aam ras. I wanted everyone who has joined me from other countries to enjoy India's rich culinary heritage. We had it together — and everyone loved it," he added.
Shukla, during his conversation, also said, "A short while ago, when I was looking out of the window, we were flying over Hawaii. We see sunrise and sunset 16 times a day from the orbit...Our nation is moving forward at a very great pace..."
In a statement that tugged at patriotic heartstrings back home, Shukla added, "India looks grand and bigger from space than it does on the map."
