HAZARIBAG: An on-duty traffic constable was killed while another was injured after their bike was hit by by a speeding truck while patrolling a stretch of NH-33 in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district early Saturday.
Constables Nand Kishore Thakur and Gajender Singh, were headed towards Sindoor on a police bike when it was hit from behind near a toll plaza.
Thakur, who was driving, died on the spot. "The deceased constable hailed from Bengabad in Giridih. The injured is admitted in a private hospital in Ranchi," Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan said, adding, "Compensation and other benefits will be provided to kin of the deceased as per govt rules."
Police said that the truck driver and the vehicle are yet to be traced.
