NEW DELHI: A murder investigation is underway after the body of an unidentified woman, allegedly stuffed into a sack and dumped in a garbage truck, was discovered in the early hours of Sunday under the Chennammanakere Achukattu police station limits.
Police believe the woman was between 30 and 35 years old. The body, reportedly tied up and packed in a sack, is suspected to have been dumped into the garbage vehicle sometime between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
The grim discovery came when a local resident, out to dispose of household waste, noticed the unusually heavy and suspicious sack in the garbage truck and immediately alerted the police. A team from Chennammanakere Achukattu police station rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
Initial investigation suggests the woman may have died due to smothering, although the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a postmortem. Police have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault, pending forensic examination.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area has given investigators a potential lead, police suspect the body may have been transported to the location in an auto-rickshaw.
A case of murder has been registered, and police say a detailed investigation is on to identify the victim, trace those involved, and establish a motive.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the woman or shedding light on the crime.
