Social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, better known to netizens as the ‘rebel kid,’ recently took to Instagram to announce an upcoming multi-city India tour. The internet poured in mixed reactions. While many cheered at the news, a considerable number of netizens erupted with confusion and criticism, wondering, "What will she actually do on stage?"

Mukhija burst onto the scene with her fearless, no-filter videos that spoke candidly about everyday life and social issues. Her unique blend of humor and honesty quickly won over a large, loyal following.

Rebel & friends

Taking to Instagram, the organisers announced, “Rebel & friend’s energy is hitting your city soon! Apoorva aka @the.rebel.kid is going on a nationwide takeover tour… India, it’s time to vibe.” Alongside the announcement, a poster revealed that the tour will take place between October and November this year.

Apoorva shared the update on her stories on Sunday, adding a simple message saying, ‘See you in your city.’

The announcement post’s comment section quickly became a mix of reactions. Some fans expressed excitement, others confusion, while many skeptics flooded it with trolling, doubting her abilities as a live performer beyond her digital content.

One wrote, “What exactly is this tour aimed at? To teach more slang, disrespect being shown as cool behaviour, non-sense life quotes, and the list goes on.”

Another wondered, “Visit my city and do what?”

One chuckled, “I won't even go for free.”

One pointed out falling standards and said, “ Wow! India really has hit a new low.”

A user even went to the extent of dragging the government into it and said, “A country that hypes such individuals has no right to question the government on any agendas or demands.”

However, some loyalists chipped in in support of the content creator. While some eagerly requested that the tour include their cities, others, visibly thrilled by the announcement, shared their excitement, saying they ‘can’t wait’ to see Apoorva perform live on stage.

Apoorva Mukhija: The controversy magnet

Earlier this year, following the India’s Got Latent controversy involving Samay Raina and others, Mukhija’s name was dropped from the IIFA 2025 promoters list. She was also removed from a high-profile video shoot organized by Rajasthan Tourism, with conservative factions like the Karni Sena openly opposing her participation.

She was also in legal trouble over the matter. FIRs were filed in Kota and Mumbai for allegedly obscene remarks linked to the show. The controversy blew up further when it was revealed she had faced harassment, ranging from vile abuse to threats, across social media platforms.

In personal life, too, the rebel kid found herself embroiled in controversy after her ex-boyfriend, Utsav Dahiya, released a song titled ‘Cute Little Red Flag.’ The song, widely seen as a veiled reference to their breakup, accused Apoorva of cheating and manipulating for sympathy and online engagement.  The controversy quickly snowballed, sparking heated debates online and affecting Apoorva’s standing within the influencer community. Several fellow content creators unfollowed her on social media, prompting speculation about internal rifts.

As she sets out on her India tour, where fans hope to see performances that live up to her online persona, Apoorva still faces a challenging battle. Whether she silences critics or gives them more to talk about, one thing is clear that the rebel kid’s return to the public stage will be watched closely.
